We're thrilled to announce that Westvale Park resident and community champion Sujata Das is your Conservative candidate in the upcoming Horley Town Council by-election for Horley West on Thursday 5 June. Find out more about her and why she's standing below.
I believe in hard work, passion and dedication. My whole life has shown me how far these values can take a person.
I moved to the UK in 2015 after graduating with excellence in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. Having made my family home in Westvale Park with my husband Prasanta, I have grown deeply attached to our local community. Horley and its people are the place that I take immense pride in calling my home.
As an instrumentation engineer, I have to find viable solutions to significant challenges on a daily basis, and I believe this is a crucial skill I could bring to Horley Town Council.
Only 16% of the engineers in the UK are women. I know exactly what it means to face difficult odds and how to overcome them. If I am elected as your town councillor, I will be relentless in protecting the interests of our community.
Apart from my engineering work, I have volunteered with a number of charities because giving back is a crucial part of my life’s creed. As trustee of a social charity, I have experience of fostering community cohesion and advocating for mental wellbeing, whilst providing support to hospices, food banks and orphanages.
I am also a member of the Horley Carnival organising committee because I think it is vital for us residents to come together to celebrate our town’s culture, strengthen our community spirit and boost our local economy.
Motivated by the determination to make a difference, I’m standing to become your town councillor for Horley West. I will make sure that our local amenities are managed efficiently, keep a close eye on planning matters and work with Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Surrey County Council as we undergo local government reorganisation.
