Local people in Horley are concerned about the imminent closure of the Post Office in the Morrisons Local in the Town Centre.
As a town of just under 30,000 people with only one remaining place in the town to access cash, we share local concerns that we could lose our Post Office in the town, which serves residents across Horley.
Local community activist Taylor O'Driscoll says, "Our Post Office keeps the community connected, helping those without internet access keep in touch with friends, family and local support. It also helps local people manage their bank accounts after several banks closed their stores in Horley.
"Losing the town centre Post Office would be deeply worrying. It could mean the elderly and those struggling to access online services have to travel further to access banking services and get the support they need. The next nearest Post Offices are in Meath Green and Smallfield, difficult to get to without a car."
Marisa Heath, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesperson for Dorking & Horley says, "We constantly see closures of facilities like post offices and banks, but residents, especially older or disabled, have a basic right to be able to access cash, parcels and any government services through a post office.
"There's no question that alternative provision will have to be found. We will push hard for the council and the MP to find a solution, and not just hope people forget about this and get used to not having another important facility in their town. Horley deserves an easy to reach post office service."
Taylor O'Driscoll, Marisa Heath and the local Conservatives are calling on Post Office Limited to save the Horley Town Centre Post Office. Together with putting pressure on Cash Access UK to introduce a much needed Banking Hub for Horley.
