Residents were shocked to learn of another financial shambles at Mole Valley District Council this week.
The council is having to hold another special Full Council meeting this Wednesday (5 March) after they got the budget motion was wrong by not including the increase in police costs calculations. This will mean reduced cashflow which will cost taxpayers in Mole Valley money. This is the second major mistake by the Liberal Democrats involving the budget in four years at Mole Valley.
In the context of this and the debacle of the Curtis Road land sale in Dorking which cost residents £1million due to management failures, it is clear the Liberal Democrats in Mole Valley are not in control of the council finances.
With the council perilously close to going bankrupt and officers stating the council could go bust by 2027, urgent action is needed.
Cllr Joanna Slater, Leader of Mole Valley Conservatives says, "Senior members of the Lib Dem administration need to reflect on why these mistakes keep happening under their leadership. Mole Valley’s tax payers shouldn't be left carrying the can for these large financial errors."
Marisa Heath, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesperson for Dorking & Horley says, "The financial mess made by the Lib Dems at Mole Valley District Council means the council leans further towards going bust. No money for the community, and cuts in services loom. And it’s not limited to Mole Valley.
"Fraud at Guildford Borough Council and a £13.5million overspend which is then linked to Waverley Borough Council - these councils have one thing in common which is Lib Dem administrations. Lib Dems push literature through Surrey doors endlessly slamming other parties but they aren’t quite so perfect themselves."
